Welcome to the Wheelabrator Falls Waste-to-Energy Facility
Combining recycling and waste-to-energy operations in a single facility, Wheelabrator Falls represents the apex of integrated municipal waste management. The facility provides an environmentally sound and cost-effective waste management solution for Bucks County, including its host community of Falls Township.
Wheelabrator Falls' materials recovery facility (MRF) removes 30,000 tons of recyclable paper, plastic, aluminum, steel and glass from the waste stream every year. The waste-to-energy facility converts the rest - up to 1,500 tons per day – into 53,000 kilowatts of electricity. That’s enough to power 60,000 Pennsylvania homes for a year without burning any fossil fuels. Wheelabrator Falls was the first private waste-to-energy facility in the country to include a MRF, which provides a built-in savings for member communities. Processing recyclable and non-recyclable waste at the same facility cuts transportation costs.
The facility operates in full compliance with state and federal regulations, meeting or exceeding requirements for emissions, air quality, groundwater protection, and employee health and safety. Wheelabrator Falls and its employees are also active in their communities, supporting environmental education programs, maintaining wildlife habitat, and sponsoring civic organizations, senior citizens centers and public parks.
